SCAD 2011 Fashion Look Book

Here are some pictures of the Savannah College of Art and Design Fashion 2011 Look Book. The book contains looks from this year's senior collections. 28 senior collections were featured during two fashion shows held May 21st at 4:00 and 8:00 pm. Manolo Blanik, Chris Benz, Christian Cota, and Joe Zee from Elle Magazine were in attendance  I will post photos from the show shortly!

Seam Magazine!

 

So for my contemporary issues in fashion merchandising class we had to work in a group and create a magazine. The concept had to be some what fashion related and it was required to have several features which included: An interview, 2 editorials, multiple advertisements, and a special topic.The concept of our magazine was a technology related issue. We focused on today's top technological products, the ever growing blog scene, and some of today's big technological happenings in the fashion industry.  I helped style and produce the editorials and I completed the layout myself. The magazine itself ended up being 68 pages and It is something I am very proud of.  I wanted to give you guys a peak of something I have been working on for the past month! Our group members included Jaqueline Gasc(When I'm Not Naked) Hillary Mund ( I like Your Shoes), Bianca Tankersley (Fashion In Many Ways), and Whitney Olinger (SKU Junky). Blog Changes

Hey Guys!

So this Thursday is the end of my Spring Quarter at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and with that there will be a few changes to the blog. In my Contemporary Issues in Fashion class this quarter we were required to create a blog and write about a specific topic, as you know I choose the way beauty is perceived in the industry and perhaps other outlets of beauty. I discuss a lot about embracing yourself and I focus quite a bit on plus size figures in the industry but from now on I will be expanding my topic reach. There will be more posts about my portfolio, things going on in the industry and other various things. I hope to expand my blog and provide more variety for the reader. I will continue to update regularly so no worries! Happy Reading!

Big Girl in a Skinny World

Ashley Falcon is a young lady who writes a column for Marie Claire Magazine. Her column, Big Girl in a Skinny World is featured in every edition the magazine produces. Big Girl in a Skinny World is a column that features fashion tips for plus size ladies. Ashley Falcon is a size 18 herself and knows the challenges many plus size women face when they want to be fashionable. Each month she tackles a issue, such as how to wear the latest silhouettes, wearing skinny jeans, and most recently, what to bring for a chic vacation. Its wonderful to see a mainstream magazine have a feature like this and is definitely worth reading each month.  MarieClaire

There is a change coming.

                        

High Fashion has not always been kind to the fuller figure. Combinations of clothing that could only be worn by 00 models are often produced. Cut outs, mini skirts, backless dresses, sheer items, you name it. Leggings are a plus size woman's worst nightmare, so is the lingere and sheer trend that is going on right now. You can forget 5 inch heels and short skirts. But lately, a change has been happening.

For the past few runway seasons the fashions shown on the runway have been somewhat more figure friendly. It all started with Mad Men. Oh the Mad Men craze that was going on for a while. Christina Hendricks inspired a whole fashion movement with her bosom! Soon after in the Fall/Winter 2010 runway seasons Marc Jacobs, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and others were producing clothes that would look good on a size 14+ woman! Curves were embraced and accepted during this fashion season. Louis Vuitton even used plus size models and Victoria Secret models! They were producing sillhouettes that enhanced a womans curves. Something that hasnt been done much in this generation.

This summer is another winner for a fuller figured woman. Breezy sillhouettes, light cottons, and pretty draping wil be a must for the summer. Not to mention the seasons favorite shoe: the wedge, a godsend for a plus size woman. Take advantage of these flattering looks!

 

 

Ford + Models

Ford modeling agency has recently launched a new segment called Ford + models. It is a division for plus size models between the sizes of 8-18. They also provided images of the ladies who will be the new face of Ford + Models.

I have always had an issue with the idea of a plus size model. Simply put "plus size models" tend to be about a size 8 or 10 and any plus size woman will tell you that is one skinny bitch! Some of the young ladies in the following photographs are pretty tiny, a far cry from a plus size woman.
